Fire damages home on Appleton's northside

A house caught fire yesterday on Appleton's northside.

Fire department Investigator Brian Noel says smoke and flames were coming from the home in the 800 block of E. Byrd Street, near Meade Street. He says they got to the scene around 11 a.m., and knocked down the fire in about an hour.

Noel says had to cut open the roof to attack the fire. He says there's smoke and water damage throughout the home.

Noel says they haven't pinpointed the cause yet. He says no one was home when the fire started.
