Petri to officially announce decision today

After 35 years in Congress, a Fond du Lac Republican plans to retire, instead of seek another term.

Congressman Tom Petri plans to make an official announcement this afternoon, during a town hall meeting in Neenah. At least one Republican candidate was planning to run against Petri in the primary.

Lawrence University political science professor Arnold Shober says that may have been a factor in the decision, Shober says it's possible that Petri just decided to go out on a good note, and move on.

Petri was first elected to Congress in 1978. He's holding the town hall meeting, at Neenah's City Hall, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
