UW profs propose 2 years of free college

Students at public technical colleges and universities, across the country, would get a free ride for two years, under a financial aid proposal from two UW-Madison professors.

Educational policy professor Sara Goldrick-Rab says all public school students would have greater opportunities, if they pulled federally funded financial aid from private school students.

Goldrick-Rab says 50 years ago, there weren't as many public universities, as there are today, so it made sense to offer aid to private school students. She says it should be limited to the public schools now.

Goldrick-Rab presented the proposal in Washington D.C., earlier this month.
