Housing sales down in March

Home sales took another hit last month.

Mike Theo of the Wisconsin Realtors Association says sales were down just over 11 percent in March, compared to a year ago. For the first quarter, they were down 8.5 percent.

Theo says the rough winter is to blame for the decline. He says the first quarter is typically a slow time anyway, and he hopes the market will bounce back. He says April through June is their busiest stretch of the year.

Theo says even though sales were down, the statewide median price climbed by almost two percent last month, to over $136,000.

The market was worse in northeast Wisconsin. Sales fell 17 percent last month, and the median price was down just over one percent, to about $133,000. Sales for the first quarter were off almost 13 percent.
