Appleton schools plan for laptop program

When high school students in Appleton go to their first day of school next year, they'll leave with a new laptop.

The district is starting a one-to-one computer program, thanks to a referendum that passed last month.

The district decided to get Chromebooks for the students. A smaller number of the computers will also be used in elementary and middle school classrooms.

Dale Hanson is the district's career and technical education director. He says the devices could help the students learn in a more effective way.

He says school officials are working on ways to implement, and control, the increased computer use in the classroom.
