Lawmaker: Micro-beads hurt environment

A state lawmaker is raising concerns about the micro-beads that are included in some personal care products.

Sen. Bob Wirch says they're so small that they're slipping through the filters at wastewater treatment plants, and they're ending up in lakes and rivers.

The Somers Democrat says the micro-beads absorb pollutants, once they get into a waterway, and fish can eat them. He says that impacts public health, when people eat the fish.

Wirch plans to introduce a bill next year to ban the use of micro-beads in products.
