Advocate reacts to voter ID ruling

A federal judge is throwing out the state's voter ID law.

Judge Lynn Adelman ruled yesterday that the photo ID requirement violates the constitution, because it unfairly burdens poor and minority voters.

Jay Heck of Common Cause in Wisconsin says he expects Governor Walker will try to make sure the requirement is in place for the November election. He says the governor will meet with his lawyers, and work to come up with changes that lawmakers could pass, in a special session.

Heck has called Wisconsin's voter ID law the most restrictive one in the country.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says he'll appeal today's ruling. Another lawsuit is pending before the state Supreme Court.

Supporters argue the requirement would prevent voter fraud.
