AG candidate issues heroin plan

The GOP candidate for attorney general says the heroin epidemic is the state's top public safety issue, and he has a plan to fight it.

Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel is the only Republican in the race. He says heroin, and prescription opiate drug overdoses, are the leading cause of accidental deaths in the state.

Schimel says the drug is more potent now, and most addicts start with prescription opiates.

His plan calls for extra training for prosecutors and police officers, and working with neighboring states. He also wants to create partnerships between police, parents, teachers, and medical professionals.
