Advocate reacts to domestic abuse report

An advocate for victims of domestic violence says the state is seeing a "huge" number of cases.

Beth Schnorr of Harbor House in Appleton is weighing in on the latest report from the state justice department.

Prosecutors around the state received nearly 29,000 cases from law enforcement agencies in 2012. That's the most recent data that's available, and the number is up slightly from 2011.

Schnorr says she was surprised to see that nearly half of the adult victims were under 30.

Disorderly conduct, and misdemeanor battery were the two most common charges that were filed. Schnorr says it's important to send a message to abusers early, before situations escalate.
