Fares for Valley Transit's Connector rising

A Valley Transit service that helps some people get to and from work, now costs more to use.

Fares for the Connector are going up by $1 per ride, starting today. The service takes people beyond the bus system's regular service area. They can also use it, outside of the regular operating hours.

Valley Transit spokeswoman Nikki Voeltzke says the Connector provided about 16-thousand rides last year. She says it's great for economic development, because 90 percent of the rides were job-related.

Voeltzke says they lost $40,000 in federal funding, and that's why they had to raise fares. She says the increase doesn't cover the total amount. She says they're working with the United Way Fox Cities to come up with the rest.
