Town of Menasha sets rules for hotels

The town of Menasha is following Grand Chute's lead, in trying to help people staying in motels for extended periods, get into more permanent housing.

The town of Menasha board approved rules earlier this week that force motel and hotel owners to work with police.

Officer Jason Weber says it's focused on controlling criminal behavior and improving security. But he hopes it also leads some families to get out of a transitional housing mode.

The Valley Inn is the only motel in the town. Weber hopes the town, motel, and non-profits can solve the problem by the fall.

Grand Chute is putting a time limit on how long people can stay in a hotel or motel.
