Family creates fund in memory of Kaukauna grad

A scholarship fund will help preserve the memory of a Kaukauna high school graduate, who was killed last weekend in Chicago.

Authorities say 28-year-old Wil Lewis was shot in the back, and he wasn't the intended target. His father, Joseph Lewis, says his son overcame numerous obstacles since he was adopted from Guatemala, when he was seven years old.

He says Wil went from being illiterate with a learning disability to becoming a high school and college graduate, with a good job. Lewis says he wants to help other kids, in his son's name.

Joseph Lewis is a former Kaukauna high school principal. The family is creating a fund for the scholarship.

Wil Lewis's funeral will be next Wednesday in Brookfield.
