Doctor reacts to smoking rate during pregnancy

A specialist in high-risk pregnancy says it's not easy for pregnant women to quit smoking.

UW Health Doctor Kathy Stewart says women may not get a lot of support, even though the risks are widely understood.

The issue is generating more attention, after an Eau Claire woman told her story in a new ad from the Centers for Disease Control.

Amanda Brenden says she was a 24-year-old college student, when she got pregnant. She kept smoking, and her daughter was born two months early, and she weighed five pounds.

The now seven-year-old girl has asthma.
