LU sets record for Lawrence Fund donations

Lawrence University raised a record $3.7 million over the last fiscal year, through the school's annual giving program.

The Appleton university uses the money from the Lawrence Fund to cover almost 10 percent of the school's budget. That helps bridge the gap between what students pay in tuition, and the actual operating costs.

More than one-third of alumni contributed last year.

President Mark Burstein says the class of 1964 gave a record setting gift, for a 50th reunion class, of more than $800,000.

Burstein says the previous overall fundraising record was $3.6 million. It was set during the 2008-2009 school year.
