City won't allow free parking for Mile of Music

People will still have to pay to park at meters, in downtown Appleton, during the Mile of Music festival.

The city council voted 9-2 against a proposal to stop parking attendants from writing tickets throughout the four-day event.

Ald. Jeff Jirschele says they want to do everything they can to help the event be successful, but that idea was too much. He says the parking utility would've lost valuable revenue.

Jirschele says if they would've gone along with the idea, organizers of other events could have made the same request.

The city enforces the parking meters until 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Sundays are free.
