Legion holds state conference in Appleton

Veterans are getting together in downtown Appleton for the annual American Legion state conference.

About 900 members are in town.

Raymond Gass is the president of Appleton's Post 38, and he's also the convention president. He says they're talking about issues like medical care for veterans, and other services. He says they kicked off the conference with the arrival of a motorcycle ride in support of their Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Gass says they're raising money to help the children of fallen service members go to college. He says they're still collecting money at their Legion headquarters in Grand Chute.

The convention is at the Radisson Paper Valley hotel through Sunday.
