Appleton to study bike lane options

After another controversy over a proposed bike lane project, the city of Appleton is going to consider more options.

The municipal services committee wants to set up a special study committee to come up with recommendations. The big issue has been retro-fitting existing streets with bike lanes, and the loss of on-street parking.

Rob Gusky is the president of the Fox Cities Cycling Association. He says it's good to ensure that everyone's concerns are addressed. He says he's looking forward to moving ahead with the rest of the city's plan.

Ald. Patti Coenen is a member of the municipal services committee, and she says they might consider a shared lane, between cars and bicycles, to see if that would work.

The special committee will make its recommendations in May of next year.
