Safe Ride program growing quickly

A program in Outagamie County that provides free cab rides, from bars and restaurants, might double its numbers from last year.

Through the first six months of the year, Safe Ride gave out more than 1,200 rides. The total for all of last year was nearly 1,400.

Terri Buman of Sassy's Bar and Grill in Black Creek is the Safe Ride coordinator. She says 49 bars and restaurants are participating, and that's about one-third of their members.

The county's tavern league started the program in 2011.

Brad Schinke is the league president, and he says there's no doubt that it's helping reduce the number of deadly accidents.
