Gehring faces re-election challenge

Outagamie County's sheriff says he's running for another term to continue some of the initiatives that he helped put in place.

Former deputy Ron Viaene is challenging Sheriff Brad Gehring, in the August 12 Republican primary.

Gehring says the "alternatives to incarceration" programs are leading to a smaller jail population. He says they're also helping people get treatment, for their problems.

Gehring says he wants to keep fighting the growing heroin problem as well.

Gehring has been the sheriff for 24 years. We featured Viaene yesterday morning.
