Suicide rate highest among middle-aged adults

Middle-aged people have the highest suicide rate in Wisconsin.

A report from the state division of public health looked at a five-year period that ended in 2011. It also found that teens and young adults had the most hospital visits for self-inflicted injuries.

The agency's Chuck Warzecha says they're going to send their research to local community organizations. He says hopefully that can help them develop prevention strategies.

Warzecha says a number of factors contributed to the high rate, among people between 45 and 54. He says they included job situations, relationship issues, and alcohol use.
