Larsen Green site may have burial sites

The downtown Green Bay property where Walmart wanted to build a Supercenter might be home to some burial sites or historical remnants.

Seven nations lived on the Larsen Green property, including Indian tribes, the French, and British.

The city might take over the ownership of the land, and Mayor Jim Schmitt says it's something they would keep a close eye on. He says no matter the development, if crews uncover burial sites or anything of historical significance, they'll stop work. He says they'd have to figure out what it is, and how to move forward.

Ald. Mark Steuer says the chances are good that there are burial sites on the Broadway property. He's a member of the Historic Preservation Committee, and that panel will talk about the issue next month.
