PSC approves We Energies rate hike
A watchdog group is disappointed that electricity rates for We Energies customers will climb by 4.2 percent next year.
The Public Service Commission signed off on the rate hike yesterday, after reducing the utility's request.
Charlie Higley of the Citizens Utility Board says bills will go up even more, because We Energies can increase its monthly fixed customer charge, by 20 percent. He says the actual 5.5 percent increase is more than twice the rate of inflation.
Higley says ratepayers are going to have to cover nearly all of the legal fees that We Energies racked up recently, and that accounts for a large portion of the 2013 hike.
The PSC also agreed to allow We Energies to increase rates by another 2.6 percent in 2014.
