Dem-led mining panel holding final hearing
A special committee on mining is holding its final hearing today.
Sen. Tim Cullen of Janesville is the chair of the Democratic-led panel, and he says the bill that failed last session didn't provide enough revenue to the local governments that would be impacted by mining. He says the last bill also included some unrealistic time frames for approving permits.
Governor Walker is calling on the Legislature to approve a mining bill sometime next spring. He says he's confident the company that pushed for an iron ore mine in Ashland and Iron counties, would come back to the state.
