Appleton panel recommends ending SWAT agreement

Philosophical difference between the police chiefs in Appleton and Grand Chute could end a year-old SWAT team agreement between the communities.

Appleton's safety and licensing committee voted unanimously yesterday, to end the deal that automatically send the city's SWAT team to incidents in the town.

Committee chair Kathy Plank says Appleton chief Pete Helein and Grand Chute chief Greg Peterson have different ideas of how the team should operate.  She says this disagreement shouldn't impact any other partnerships between the city and the town.

Appleton's city council is expected to vote on the SWAT team agreement next week.
