Mild weather hurting snow thrower sales

A local company is hoping winter makes a comeback soon.

Ariens is among the nation's largest snow thrower manufacturers, and spokeswoman Ann Stilp says the lack of snow is leading to a lull in sales. She says their business is very weather dependent, and one large storm could make a big difference.

Locally, people appear to be keeping up on their snow thrower maintenance.

Jason Ebben is the service manager at Kitz and Pfeil True Value in Appleton. He says they tuned up more than 100 machines last month, and a lot of people are running into problems with bad gasoline. He says that's because most people didn't use their snow thrower last year, and the gas is over a year old.

Ebben says right now, there's little to no wait for people who need to tune up their snow thrower for the season.
