Fitzgerald wants to change GAB makeup

The Republican-controlled Legislature may try to change the makeup of the state's nonpartisan election board during the next two years.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau says he feels the Government Accountability Board favors Democrats, and he wants the Legislature to be able to appoint members to the panel.

Right now, all six retired judges who make up the GAB are appointed by the governor. The GAB was created under a bipartisan proposal in 2008.
