Mill demolition causes Kimberly tax hike
The former NewPage paper mill in Kimberly is coming down, and village property taxpayers will feel the impact, on their tax bill.
Village administrator Adam Hammatt says value of the mill property dropped from about $35 million to $5 million. because of the demolition.
He says the village board passed a budget last night that lowers the tax levy by about $80,000 but that won't offset the loss. Hammatt says property taxes on a $130,400 house will rise by about $27.
Hammatt says the village cut costs by finding efficiencies, and having employees pay more for benefits.
Property tax bills will be mailed out later this month.
