Treaty vote disappoints advocacy group

An advocacy group for people with disabilities isn't happy that the U.S. Senate failed to ratify a worldwide equal rights treaty.

The United Nations put together the treaty, and it calls for all countries to adopt America's standards.

Lisa Pugh of Disability Rights Wisconsin says they missed a huge opportunity to help people.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Oshkosh voted against it, because he believed it could interfere with U.S. law. Former Republican U.S. Senator Bob Dole and the first President Bush endorsed the treaty.

The 61-38 vote fell short of the necessary two-thirds majority. All of the Democrats in the Senate voted to approve it.
