Group wants online retailers to pay sales tax

A state group that's led by an Appleton business owner is calling on Governor Walker and lawmakers to level the playing field, by collecting sales tax from online retailers.

Joe Pankratz of Avenue Jewelers is the president of the Wisconsin Jewelers Association. He says Internet sales are increasing, and it's costing the state tax revenue and jobs.

Pankratz says when someone spends a dollar locally, it stays in the local economy. He says local businesses also support charities and other causes in the area.

He says out-of-state Internet companies don't employ anyone in Wisconsin, or pay taxes in the state, but they have an unfair advantage.
