Proposal would lift UW's out-of-state enrollment cap

There could be more out-of-state students at UW-System schools next year.

The Board of Regents will vote today on a proposal to lift the enrollment cap from 25 percent, to 27-1/2 percent. That's a compromise from the initial request of 30 percent.

UW-Madison interim Chancellor David Ward says the campuses have more room for in-state, and out-of-state students, and that was lost on some critics.

A committee of the Board of Regents is recommending the 27-1/2 percent limit.

Ward says the UW is the only Big Ten school will any restriction on out-of-state enrollment.
