Group calls for closing tax havens
While President Obama and Republican leaders work on a compromise to avoid the fiscal cliff, a Wisconsin group is calling on them to close offshore tax havens to bring more money into the federal coffers.
Joe Rasmussen is with Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group. He says the tax loophole costs the country about $150 billion, and that kind of money could go a long way.
A WISPIRG report shows that other taxpayers are forced to pick up the tab, in the form of cuts to public services, more debt, or higher taxes, when people hide their assets in off shore accounts.
