Teen gets probation for arrow shooting

The 17-year-old Campbellsport teen who accidentally shot a 7-year-old girl in the back with an arrow last May, will avoid jail time.

A Fond du Lac County judge sentenced Casey Bennett to three years of probation today, after Bennett entered no contest pleas to charges of negligent use of a weapon, and resisting arrest. The weapons charge is a felony.

Fond du Lac County assistant district attorney Kimberly Tenerelli says Bennett didn't have a prior record, and she thinks probation and 300 hours of community service is a fair punishment.

Court records say Bennett was shooting at squirrels when a stray arrow hit Aryanna Schneeberg in the back. He initially denied shooting it, and he says he didn't come forward because he was scared.

Schneeberg was playing outside of her Campbellsport home, and the arrow damaged her spleen, stomach, diaphragm, lung, and liver.
