Van Hollen warns against knee-jerk gun bills
The state's attorney general is asking lawmakers to avoid
knee-jerk reactions to recent mass shootings.
Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says rushing to ban certain kinds of ammunition, or styles of guns, may not prevent tragedies like the one last week in Connecticut, or those in Brookfield and Oak Creek earlier this year.
The statement comes after three Democratic lawmaker announced a gun-control bill that they'll unveil next session.
The attorney general says any proposals need to be well thought out and actually make a difference in protecting society.
