Appeals court upholds same-sex registry

The state's domestic partner registry survived its latest court challenge.

A state appeals court issued a ruling today, in a lawsuit filed by the conservative group Wisconsin Family Action.

Katie Belanger is the executive director of the gay-rights group Fair Wisconsin, and she says they're thrilled that the court upheld the ruling that the registry doesn't violate the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage and civil unions.

Belanger says the registry gives same-sex couples some basic rights, including the ability to make hospital visits, and end-of-life decisions.

Belanger says they expect Wisconsin Family Action will appeal the case to the state Supreme Court. The decision by the court of appeals upholds the ruling of a Dane County judge.
