Man charged for strangling woman, biting officer

A man accused of strangling a woman, biting a police officer, and spitting in officers' faces made an initial appearance yesterday in Outagamie County court.

Appleton police officers arrested 30-year-old Donnell Reed Tuesday evening, after he allegedly broke a table and strangled a woman until she nearly passed out, during an argument at an apartment in the 1400 block of S. Driscoll Street.

Officers say Reed and a woman got into an argument with three people at the apartment, and after it became heated, Reed grabbed the victim by the neck, and broke the table.

Officers arrested Reed after he returned to the apartment to continue the argument, and he fought with the officers, saying that he would "get them" and they would have to "kill him" before he would go back to jail.

The officers brought Reed to St. Elizabeth Hospital because he claimed he hurt his thumb. Records say Reed bit an officer's finger, while the officer tried getting him out of the squad car at the hospital, and he spit in two officers' faces in the hospital.

Reed faces four felonies and two misdemeanors for the incident, he'll be back in court next Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
