Large flag poles coming to Memorial Drive
A street named to honor those who served the country is getting some extra symbolism, thanks to the work of an Appleton
man who passed away in September.
Ralph Kennedy fought to get large flag poles installed at College Avenue and Veterans Park, along Memorial Drive. The doughboy statue already sits at the other end, at Calumet Street. Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna says until now, that statue was really the only thing honoring the veterans.
After Kennedy passed away, his friends continued his fight, and the city council approved the plan earlier this month.
