SafeRide re-emerges in Fox Cities
A program that helps people get home safe, if they've had too much to drink, is making a comeback in the Fox Valley.
A privately run SafeRide program failed a couple of years ago, but the Outagamie County Tavern League is reviving it.
Brian Striegel owns the Camelot bar on Wisconsin Avenue in Appleton. He says all people have to do is ask a bartender, at a participating bar, for a SafeRide home. Striegel says the program comes with a cost to bar owners, but they feel it's an important service.
Striegel says the program is catching on. He says it started with about 10 to 15 bars in March, and it's around 30 are participating.
Striegel says this is the first New Year's Eve for the new SafeRide program, and it will likely be a busy night.
Here's a list of participating bars:
Pine Street
Union Jacks
Wooden Nickel
Cleo's
The Bar on Lynndale
Peggy's Midtown
Sassy's
Wishing Well
Porks – Hortonville
Hawk's Nest
Rookies
Frank's Place II
Red Ox
Flagstone
Kamp's Bar
