Appeals court reverses mascot ruling
Opponents of the state's law on race-based mascots lost a court battle today.
A state appeals court ruled that two parents in the Mukwonago school district don't have the right to challenge the review process by the department of public instruction. They argued that the agency employee was biased when he ordered the district to change its Indians nickname.
The decision reverses a Waukesha County judge's ruling, and an attorney for the parents says they'll appeal to the state Supreme Court.
The Berlin school district also has an Indians nickname, and some parents filed a similar lawsuit against the state.
