State warns of Medicare scam
The state consumer protection department is warning people about a Medicare card scam.
Administrator Sandy Chalmers says they received a complaint from a woman who got a phone call from a group called Preferred Benefits to Seniors. She says the caller claimed that she needed a new card, and told her she would lose her benefits without one.
Chalmers says the caller wanted to verify personal information, and then asked for a bank account number.
She says the woman turned over her information, but luckily closed her bank account before any money was stolen.
