Watchdog wants end to Assembly's late nights
Top Republicans in the Assembly say they want to put an end to the marathon debate sessions that run into the early morning hours, and a government watchdog says he agrees.
Jay Heck of Common Cause says late-night debates have become common. He says not only are lawmakers tired when they debate through the night, it's just not good public policy.
Heck says because debate shouldn't be cut short, the rules need to include a provision that allows for debate to continue, the following day.
