Cowles wants mining panel's work included
A lawmaker from Green Bay hopes Majority Republicans
include some of the ideas from a special mining panel, in the new proposal to streamline the permitting process.
GOP Sen. Rob Cowles says the version that leaders will introduce, will be based on the version that failed in the Senate last year. He says there will a number of tweaks.
Cowles was a member of a bi-partisan committee that worked for about three months on the mining issue. He says they learned that the timelines for approving a permit were too short, but he didn't hear concerns about the environmental standards, during their public hearings.
Leaders plan to introduce a bill soon, and vote on it, in March.
