Flu cases already top all of last season

The flu season in Wisconsin hasn't reached its peak yet, and there are already more confirmed cases than all of last season.

Claire Smith of the state department of health services says they've recorded more than 2,800 cases so far. She says about 75 percent of them were caused by the same strain that matches the current flu vaccine.

Smith says getting the shot doesn't guarantee that you won't get sick. She says it's meant to limit the most severe cases.

Throughout the entire flu season a year ago, the state had a little more than 2,000 confirmed cases. Smith says so far, this season is the worst in Wisconsin, in five years.
