Assembly sets rules to avoid all-nighters

There might not be any all-night sessions anymore, in the Assembly.

Leaders are putting new rules in place, so both parties have to work together, and agree to limits on debates.

Rep. Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek says it's a good start. He says they worked together in a bipartisan way to find a solution.

The Republican is the Assembly's assistant majority leader. He says they couldn't put a strict curfew in place, because the minority party could filibuster all day, to continually delay a bill.

Steineke says all-night sessions aren't good for anyone. He says the public can't follow what's going on, and the quality of the debate suffers.

The Assembly also approved a dress code for lawmakers, and rules for the public in the gallery.
