Crossing guards wearing extra layers
On cold days like this, school crossing guards are bundling up a little bit more.
Sgt. Dave Lund of the Appleton police department says they have a group that heads out every day, regardless of the weather, to help kids get to school safely. He says they have 28 regular guards, and six alternates to fill in.
Lund says they're typically out at their spots for 45 minutes in the morning, and 45 minutes after school. He says when there are extreme weather conditions, the guards can sit in their car, until students are coming to cross.
The state is recognizing adult crossing guards this week.
