G.B. shelter asking for help
The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay is trying to find another organization to take in homeless people, once its shelter reaches capacity.
Alexia Wood is the director of the shelter at St. John the Evangelist Church in downtown Green Bay. She says they reach their 64-person capacity every night, and they're generally about 20 people over that.
St. Norbert College housed the overflow for the past several weeks, but that arrangement ends next week, when students return. Wood says she's working with the city to increase their capacity.
Wood says she's hoping that another group steps up to give the overflow crowd a place to sleep. But she says the shelter won't turn anyone away.
The city wants to fine the shelter $500 dollars a day, if it's over capacity.
