Lawmakers react to 'state of state'

Governor Walker focused on the state's efforts to create jobs during last night's "state of the state" address, and lawmakers from the area are reacting to his speech.

Democratic Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay says the state is ranked 42nd in the country in job growth, and focusing on a mine won't have an immediate impact. He says that's because it would take six or seven years to open one in northwest Wisconsin, if it meets all of the environmental standards.

Republican Senate President Mike Ellis of Neenah says the mine would improve the job market, quickly. He says while it is true that the mine wouldn't produce actual mining jobs for several years, it would create jobs at companies that build mining equipment.

Ellis says he expects to hear more details on the governor's agenda when he introduces his budget next month.
