Home sales up 21% in 2012

Home sales were up nearly 21 percent across the state last year, compared to 2011.

Mike Theo is the president of the Wisconsin Realtors Association, and he says there are also fewer houses on the market. He says inventories dropped 14 percent, from 12-1/2 months to nearly nine months.

Theo says the inventories, and a decline in foreclosures, had a positive impact on median prices. He says they were up 1.1 percent, to nearly $134,000. Theo doesn't think prices have gone up, for a full year, in several years.

In northeast Wisconsin, median prices went up 1.7 percent, to $118,000. Home sales in the region also jumped 21 percent last year.
