Realtors optimistic about 2013

The housing market in the state is coming off its best year since the recession, and the head of the Wisconsin Realtors Association hopes to keep the positive trend going in 2013.

Mike Theo says home sales rose 21 percent last year, and for the first time in several years, prices stabilized. He says the median price was up 1.1 percent in 2012, and that's encouraging. Theo says he believes there is some pent-up demand, from people who were waiting for the market to hit the bottom, before buying.

Theo says as long as the current economic conditions continue, he expects the housing market will grow. He says they're hoping for a more modest increase in the median price this year.

The year-end report from the realtors association shows sales were also up 21 percent in the northeast region, and median prices climbed 1.7 percent, to $118,000.
