Effort launched to change attitudes toward LGBT

There's a push in the Fox Valley to change the perceptions about the LGBT community.

About 300 people helped launch the INCLUDE initiative this morning, at the Radisson Paper Valley hotel.

As part of the four-month long effort, national speaker Jamie Nabozny will bring his message to high schools around the area. He grew up in Ashland, and he was the subject of the documentary "Bullied." He says he's going to talk directly to students about what they can do to stop bullying, and make sure their schools are welcoming to every student.

Nabozny says by getting so many people involved, the Fox Valley is ahead of a lot of places around the country. He says the next steps will be important, because they need to sustain the momentum.

Organizers say a majority of recent teen suicides were committed by people who were struggling with the public acceptance of their real, or perceived, sexual orientation or gender identity.
