Passenger totals down at Outagamie Co. airport

The Outagamie County Regional Airport saw a nearly eight percent drop in passengers last year, and officials say several factors led to the decline.

Spokeswoman Kim Sippola says airlines are cutting flights, fewer people are flying because of the economy, and Frontier Airlines left the airport in 2011. She says the chances of attracting a new airline aren't very good.

Sippola says they're also trying to attract new flyers by offering better amenities. She says a new restaurant is opening this year, and they're upgrading the Wi-Fi system.

The airport lost about 38,000 passengers between 2011 and 2012.  Frontier's departure cost the airport about 28,000 passengers.

Allegiant Air had a good year, with a 46 percent boost in passengers.
